19 Jan Jan Clifford
Jan is a Textile Artist practising in the Adelaide Hills. She was initially trained as an Art Teacher, then returned to the University of SA in 1988 and studied with Alexander Arcus, gaining an Associate Diploma in Arts (Textiles), where her long-term interest in natural fibres was combined with refined techniques in paper making, felting and weaving. She has taught frequent workshops in these disciplines and her work has been exhibited around the state. In 2010 she was one of a group of South Australian artists who mounted the exhibition “Intangibles in Terra Australis” in San Sebastian, Spain.
She was a main player in the development of the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery – now a world class venue for exhibiting local works and major exhibitions.
Her aim is to explore environmental issues through the medium of textiles. She works with natural fibres which have visual and tactile qualities which lend themselves to the depiction of natural themes.
